Borussia Dortmund analysis: BVB’s attacking issues as Nico Kovac eyes Carney Chukwuemeka and Fabio Silva

Borussia Dortmund are keen to improve their frontline, with former loanee Carney Chukwuemeka a target.

As it stands, Sebastian Haller and Serhou Guirassy are the only centre forwards in Nico Kovac’s side.

Both strikers have a similar play style, with BVB now looking to change things up.

Karim Adeyemi and Maximilian Beier have both featured through the middle in the past, however, the duo are set to be deployed out wide.

Elsewhere on the pitch, Jobe Bellingham has also been brought in from Sunderland, but the Black and Whites are still keen to bring Chukwuemeka back to the club as backup.

Where would Carney Chukwuemeka fit in?

The midfielder had a tough time with injuries last season and missed out on plenty of football with Chelsea before joining BVB on loan in January.

Despite this, the 21-year-old still featured 17 times last term across the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and FIFA Club World Cup.

Valued at £18million, the Black and Yellows could make a permanent move for the English youngster, who may struggle for minutes in West London.

Borussia Dortmund’s striker issues

Fabio Silva was on fire with Las Palmas last season.

Having similar strikers can make it very difficult to adapt and change tactics throughout a campaign.

This means Dortmund could struggle in European competitions, which demand tactical flexibility.

Kovac’s side would certainly benefit from another attacking option, especially if a change in playstyle is needed.

Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Fabio Silva is currently understood to be on BVB’s radar.

After being pushed out of the starting lineup by Hee-Chan Hwang and Jorgen Strand Larsen, the 23-year-old spent last season on loan at Las Palmas.

The Portuguese striker made 25 appearances in LaLiga, finding the back of the net 10 times.

Silva’s last campaign was his second-best goal-scoring season, having netted 11 goals for Anderlecht in 2022/23.

Beginning to find some form, Dortmund look likely to take the plunge and sign the Portuguese forward.

As a player, Silva prefers to get in behind, rather than holding the ball up and turning a man, like Guirassy and Haller.

Able to perform as ‘fox in the box’ and capitalise on the work of the pacy BVB wingers, Silva should be able to find the back of the net regularly for the Black and Yellows.
