Leeds Utd news: Callum Wilson on Whites’ radar as hopes for James McAtee fade
Leeds United are targeting Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson as they prepare for the Premier League, while a move for Manchester City’s James McAtee now looks increasingly unlikely.
It has now been over a month since Daniel Farke’s side secured promotion back to the big time, as they celebrated the Championship title weeks later at the start of this month.
However, no new signings have been announced since, with the only transfer news coming out from Elland Road being the imminent departure of experienced defensive midfielder Josuha Guilavogui as his contract nears its end.
The club confirmed they would enter talks with Junior Firpo and Sam Byram, but there appears to be no significant progress made towards incomings, with Leeds’ advantage over the play-off final teams soon dissipating.
McAtee move looks unlikely as Bundesliga interest grows
Although that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill, with the Yorkshire club linked heavily with a move for the attacking midfielder.
Despite seeing more game time this season, the 22-year-old has attracted interest from several clubs that could offer him a regular place in the starting XI.
Unfortunately, for Leeds, teams in Germany seem the far more likely destination for McAtee, with Sky Sports reporter Florian Petterberg claiming he has received “several enquiries from the Bundesliga” – Bayer Leverkusen the favourites.
There is plenty of interest from the Premier League, European-bound Nottingham Forest leading the race for his signature of the English sides.
A number 10 is what Farke craves as he attempts to steer Leeds clear of relegation, with a creative playmaker capable of unlocking defences one of the many priorities for the club in this summer window.

Veteran goalscorer available on a free
Another key target for the Whites is a proven goalscorer at this level, with doubts over Joel Piroe’s ability to make the step up.
Newcastle’s Wilson has been named as an ideal target for the club, with Football Insider reporting Leeds are weighing up a move for the 33-year-old.
Without a league goal this season, he has struggled for game time, starting just two of his 17 Premier League appearances.
While those numbers won't inspire much confidence among Leeds fans, his record in previous campaigns is far more encouraging – scoring nine goals in just 20 appearances last season, and 18 the season before that.
A free transfer offers minimal risk at his age, unless he demands a substantial weekly wage.
For a younger option at striker, Ukrainian forward Vladyslav Vanat has also been linked with a move to the club.
The 22-year-old has scored 17 goals in 27 Ukrainian Premier League games.
