Will Chelsea beat Man City to Xavi Simons’ signature?

Chelsea’s chase for RB Leipzig forward Xavi Simons has taken a twist, with Manchester City now entering the race.

The Blues have been in talks to bring Simons to Stamford Bridge, with the Dutch international said to be open to the move, having already agreed to personal terms, reportedly.

However, negotiations with Leipzig are proving difficult. Chelsea explored a deal involving former Lepizig player, Christopher Nkunku, plus cash, but Leipzig are unconvinced.

According to Sky Germany, they may only consider a loan, and even that would require Chelsea to cover all, or some of Nkunku’s wages.

City join the hunt

Manchester City have re-established contact with Simons’ representatives as they look to strengthen their attack before the window closes.

Pep Guardiola’s side are seeking a replacement for Savinho who is set to leave this summer. Jack Grealish is also leaving City, as he nears a move to Everton, which only adds urgency to City’s search.

Despite City’s interest, Stamford Bridge remains Simons’ preferred destination.

But unless they can move players on and find an agreement with Leipzig, Manchester City could yet snatch him away.

With the season days away and the window closing fast, Chelsea still hope to land Simons - and possibly Garnacho - before time runs out.
