Wrexham news: Red Dragons among several EFL clubs interested in Rangers star Tom Lawrence

League One promotion-chasing side Wrexham have signalled their interest in attacking midfielder Tom Lawrence, alongside several other EFL clubs.

The Welshman could be available on a free this summer, despite reports suggesting that Rangers have an option to extend his deal by a year, which currently expires at the end of May.

Lawrence has previous experience in the Championship, making over 300 appearances in the second tier of English football with the likes of Derby County, Ipswich Town and Blackburn Rovers.

The 31-year-old was plagued by injuries from November that saw him sidelined for more than two months.

Return to fitness sparks interest in Welshman

However, since making his return from injury, he has earnt himself a recall to the Wales squad managed by Craig Bellamy, whilst also scoring the winning penalty in Rangers' Europa League triumph over Fenerbahçe.

Last weekend, Lawrence also made an impact off the bench in the Gers’ 4-3 comeback victory over Dundee, scoring the equaliser goal to make it 3-3 before his side went on to complete the turnaround.

The Daily Mail reports that the likes of promotion-chasing Burnley, Coventry City, managed by his former boss Frank Lampard, West Bromwich Albion, Middlesbrough and Blackburn are all interested.

Red Dragons seek to boost their homegrown talent

A return to the Championship could be on the cards for Lawrence, and Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Wrexham has been named as a potential suitor for his signature as well.

Currently second in the league table, the Welsh side are on the verge of a third successive promotion on their journey to the Premier League.

Lawrence, who was born in Wrexham, could be a part of Phil Parkinson’s squad next season as they take on the final hurdle in the venture up the English pyramid.

However, the local lad hasn’t ruled out staying with Rangers for next season.

Olympiacos, PAOK, and Beşiktaş, the latter coached by his former Manchester United U21 boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær, are also interested.
