Bundesliga analysis: Rocco Reitz and Nelson Weiper light up U21 Euros and attract Premier League clubs

Germany fell at the last hurdle in the U21 Euros, being beaten 3-2 by Lee Carsley’s young England team.

However, youngsters Rocco Reitz and Nelson Weiper were shining lights for Antonio Di Silva’s side, both enjoying impressive tournaments.

Now, a host of Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on the German duo.

Rocco Reitz is a midfield engine

Rocco Reitz was integral to Germany’s run to the U21 Euros final.

After two loan spells in Belgium with Sint-Truidense, Reitz broke into the Borussia Monchengladbach first team in 2023, having come up through their academy.

Since making his senior debut, the midfielder has seen his stock skyrocket within the Gladbach team.

Three goal involvements from defensive midfield are certainly impressive, however, it is the German’s crunching tackles that he is known for in the Bundesliga.

Constantly pressing and getting stuck in, the 23-year-old has been integral in Gladbach’s counter-attacking style of play.

Currently, Brighton & Hove Albion, Fulham and West Ham United all reportedly have Reitz on their radar.

Nelson Weiper is just getting started

On the other hand, Weiper has slowly been integrated into the Mainz senior squad over the last three years, but it was last term when he made the most appearances.

In 20 matches, the German bagged three goals, a very good return for a rotational and young centre-forward.

The 20-year-old certainly knows where the net is, as shown by the four goals he scored at the U21 Euros.

Weiper’s tally included crucial goals against France in the semi-final and the Three Lions in the final.

With the likes of Brentford, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham all understood to be keen on the youngster, Weiper is certainly one to keep an eye on.
