Chelsea news: Blues face competition from Liverpool for Aston Villa and England forward Morgan Rogers
Chelsea are well in the race for Champions League qualification, with the Premier League set to have five clubs in the competition next season.
Enzo Maresca’s side are perched fifth in the table, level on points with Nottingham Forest, who are a place below them and have a game in hand.
Nevertheless, the Blues are preparing to once again heavily reinforce their squad over the summer, with Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers one of their top attacking targets.
Chelsea want Morgan Rogers
According to The Independent, Chelsea are keen to bring Rogers to Stamford Bridge ahead of their next campaign.
Villa do not want to sell the 22-year-old, but may be forced to do just that due to profit and sustainability rules (PSR).
Unai Emery’s side reportedly have a wage bill of over 90% of their revenue, and despite a run to the latter stages of the Champions League, face particular financial pressure.
Premier League champions Liverpool are also said to be keen on Rogers, as per Fabrizio Romano via GiveMeSport.
How good is Morgan Rogers?
Since moving to the West Midlands in January 2024, Rogers has gone from strength to strength.
The forward forced his way into Unai Emery’s starting lineup almost instantly and has never looked back.
This season, the Englishman has taken his game up another level, tallying a whopping 14 goals and 13 assists in all competitions.
It was no surprise when England came calling, handing Rogers his senior Three Lions debut back in November.
Known for his driving runs in between lines and his strength on the ball, it is no wonder that the versatile attacker has caught the eye of some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.
Could we soon see Rogers reunited with Cole Palmer, hitting their iconic ‘cold’ celebration at Stamford Bridge?
