Liverpool news: Jeremie Frimpong ‘keen’ on move to Anfield as Reds look to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been the talk of the town on Merseyside after the right-back announced he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

Reds’ supporters made their feelings known as boos echoed around Anfield as the 26-year-old replaced Conor Bradley during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal last weekend.

Arne Slot certainly has a huge task on his hands to replace Alexander-Arnold this summer, but the Dutchman is reportedly already wrapping up a deal for the defender’s heir.

Liverpool in advanced talks for Jeremie Frimpong

As per Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are in advanced talks with Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen to sign Jeremie Frimpong.

The Dutch international has a release clause of just €35million, with discussions over the payment structure of a potential deal already well underway.

Frimpong is understood to be keen on a move to Merseyside, as the 24-year-old edges closer to an exit from the BayArena.

What will Jeremie Frimpong bring to Liverpool?

While not a like-for-like replacement for Alexander-Arnold, the Dutchman is certainly just as dangerous going forward.

Primarily deployed as a right-wing-back at Leverkusen, Frimpong has put up some hugely impressive numbers over the last two years.

In Die Werkself’s unbeaten Bundesliga title win last season, the defender registered an impressive 18 goal contributions in the league.

The Dutchman has had an equally remarkable campaign this year, bagging five goals and 12 assists in all competitions.

However, similarly to Alexander-Arnold, Frimpong is inconsistent at the back.

At just five-feet-eight-inches tall, the full-back has only won 35% of his aerial duels in the Bundesliga this season, but is more solid on his feet, with a 75.8% tackle success rate.

Still fairly young, Frimpong is one of the most promising right-backs in Europe, and there is still plenty of time for Slot to develop his fellow countryman.

For just €35million too, Frimpong could easily be one of the bargains of the summer.
