Liverpool news: Reds to continue Bundesliga raid as Arne Slot keen on Hugo Ekitike
Following their Premier League triumph, Liverpool have been hard at work in the transfer market.
The Reds look to be on a Bundesliga shopping spree, as Bayer Leverkusen pair Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong edge towards a move to Anfield.
Arne Slot is now thought to be keen on a third star from the German top-flight, as the Dutchman looks to bolster his squad over the summer.
Liverpool linked with Hugo Ekitike
It is no secret that Liverpool need a new centre-forward, with Newcastle United mainman Alexander Isak heavily linked with a move to Merseyside.
However, with the Swede set to cost upwards of £150million, the Reds have seemingly shifted their sights elsewhere.
According to Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool are ‘seriously in the race’ for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.
The German outfit is reportedly set to demand €100million for the 22-year-old, which could prove to be a significant stumbling block in any deal.
Fellow Premier League side Chelsea are also understood to be interested in the Frenchman.
Would Hugo Ekitike be a good fit for Liverpool?
After joining Frankfurt last summer for just €17.5million from Paris Saint-Germain, Ekitike has taken the Bundesliga by storm in his maiden campaign.
Bagging 22 goals in all competitions, the French U21 international has been one of the most clinical forwards in Europe.
While undoubtedly having an eye for goal, the centre-forward’s understanding and vision are unparalleled, with Ekitike also providing 12 assists this season.
Despite standing at 6’2, the Frenchman is lightning-fast, and paired with his aerial ability and tricky feet, is a nightmare for defenders.
Ekitike would certainly be able to adapt to the physicality of the Premier League, something that foreign players have often struggled to do.
With their spending already rumoured to be around the £150million mark, Liverpool could be priced out of a move.
Although with the likes of Caoimhin Kelleher and Darwin Nunez set to depart this summer, it is not totally out of the question that the Reds could raise the necessary funds.
