Man Utd news: Bruno Fernandes targeted by Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal
In a dreadful campaign where Manchester United sit 15th in the Premier League, the Red Devils are set for a season-defining game in the Europa League semi-finals on Thursday.
Having beaten the Spaniards 3-0 in the first leg, Ruben Amorim’s men welcome Athletic Bilbao to Old Trafford with one foot already in the final.
United will need to win the competition if they are to play European football next season, with the winners awarded Champions League qualification.
As rumours swirl around club captain Bruno Fernandes, the Portuguese midfielder’s future in Manchester could be at stake if Man United fail to win the Europa League.
Bruno Fernandes on Saudi Pro League radar
Al Hilal have reportedly made the 30-year-old one of their top targets this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Saudi Pro League club already have the likes of Rúben Neves, João Cancelo and Aleksandar Mitrović in their ranks.
Manchester United have made clear their intentions to keep Fernandes, with the midfielder a ‘crucial piece’ to Amorim’s project.
No talks have started between the clubs over a potential move.
How important is Bruno Fernandes to Manchester United?
Despite playing in a misfiring Manchester United side this season, Fernandes has still managed to tally 37 goals and assists in all competitions, with 18 of those coming in the Premier League.
In fact, without the playmaker’s contributions in the league, the Red Devils would have only managed 24 goals, one less than rock-bottom Southampton.
Fernandes is the life and soul of Amorim’s United team, with the Portuguese international adapting well to various midfield roles this campaign.
If the midfielder leaves Old Trafford in the summer, Man United will be in a world of trouble and will struggle to find a player of the same calibre to replace him.
