Newcastle hit back after Alexander Isak breaks silence on transfer window drama
After being recognised in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season for 2025/26 on Tuesday, August 19, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak took to social media to address his future.
The Swedish international was not present at the ceremony, stating that ‘with everything going on, it didn’t feel right to be there.’ He still thanked the PFA, his team-mates and the club for the award.
Isak speaks out
Isak then broke his silence on the rumours surrounding his ongoing transfer saga:
“I’ve kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken. That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though, they know it doesn’t reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors,” he said on his Instagram story.
According to credible outlets, including BBC Sport, Isak believed he had been given assurances that he could leave Newcastle if a big club showed serious interest and met the right price.
The Swede reinforced that view, stating: “The reality is that promises were made and that the club has known my position for a long time. To now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading.”
He didn’t hold back when clarifying where things stand as the transfer window nears its deadline:
“When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue. That’s where things are for me right now - and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.”

Newcastle double down on their stance
Newcastle later responded, expressing their disappointment over Isak’s statement.
The club also contradicted Isak, stating that the forward “remains under contract and that no commitment has ever been made by a club official that Alex [Isak] can leave Newcastle United this summer.”
They also appeared to double down, referencing recent rejected bids from Liverpool:
“As explained to Alex and his representatives, we must always take intro consideration the best interests of Newcastle United, the team and our supporters in all decisions and we have been clear that the conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired. We do not foresee those conditions being met.
“Alex remains part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his team-mates.”
What now?
Three things are clear: Isak wants to leave, Liverpool want to sign him, but Newcastle are unwilling to part ways with their star striker.
The big questions now are: will Isak refuse to participate in first-team activities if a move doesn’t materialise? Will Liverpool return with another bid? Or will Newcastle soften their stance and let him go?
