Real Madrid news: AFC Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen closing in on Santiago Bernabéu move

After much interest from elite clubs across Europe, AFC Bournemouth and Spain centre half, Dean Huijsen,  looks set to sign for Real Madrid.

Following a strong debut season in the Premier League for the Cherries, the Spaniard has been linked with the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea.

As per Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid have been in direct contact with the 20-year-old’s camp as they look to agree personal terms.

The Spanish international’s £50million release clause was activated by Los Blancos on Wednesday, with it seemingly now just a matter of time before the deal is completed.

Dean Huijsen’s impressive season

The quality that Huijsen has shown throughout his first season on the South Coast has been remarkable, but what is it really about the defender that has attracted so much attention and praise?

The defender has won 75% of his aerial challenges this season and has a stat of 1.94 interceptions per 90, putting himself amongst the best defenders in the world.

With Madrid set to be taken over by Xabi Alonso, Huijsen would easily slot into the Spaniard’s defence, with his skill and composure on the ball, along with his sheer pace and strength.

With Real’s normal defensive partnership of Antonio Rudiger and Eder Militao currently sidelined, and David Alaba also injured, the young superstar could fit straight into the side as they aim for a 16th European title next season.
