Sunderland news: Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig ‘in the race’ for Jobe Bellingham
Despite not having won in six games, Sunderland have secured a place in the Championship play-offs.
The Black Cats travel to the West Midlands on Friday, where they take on Frank Lampard’s Coventry City in the first leg of the play-off semi-finals.
Régis Le Bris’ side are bidding to return to the Premier League for the first time following their relegation from the top-flight in 2017.
However, the North East club could be set to lose one of their brightest stars this summer.
Jobe Bellingham Bundesliga bound?
According to Sky Sports Germany, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are both well in the race for Jobe Bellingham.
Leipzig have been keen on the 19-year-old for some time, having held initial talks with Sunderland in March.
On the other hand, Dortmund, the former club of Jude Bellingham, could have an upper hand in convincing the Black Cats’ youngster to follow in his brother’s footsteps.
Either way, journalist Florian Plettenberg has reported that the midfielder will likely be on the move this summer, with several other clubs interested.
How good is Jobe Bellingham?
With Sunderland on the cusp of a Premier League return, Bellingham has been instrumental in the club’s promotion push.
The England U21 international has made 40 appearances for the Black Cats this season, bagging seven goal contributions.
An all-rounder, Bellingham has been deployed in defensive and offensive roles this campaign, turning out solid performances regardless.
Time will tell whether the midfielder can reach the same heights as his Madridista brother, but a move to the Bundesliga could be the next step.
However, if Sunderland are to play top-flight football next year, there is every chance that Bellingham stays at the Stadium of Light.
