Arsenal news: William Saliba set to sign new contract at the Emirates Stadium

Arsenal centre-back William Saliba is reportedly close to agreeing a new long-term contract in North London.

The Frenchman has been an integral cog in Mikel Arteta’s winning machine over the last three years, with 139 appearances in all competitions.

Despite three second-place finishes, Saliba has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League, alongside Gabriel Magalhaes.

The Gunners have not had an ideal start to their campaign, having dropped points to title rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.

With a trip to St. James’ Park on Sunday, Arsenal will be keen to get back on track against Newcastle United and shorten the five-point gap between themselves and Arne Slot’s Reds.

William Saliba close to new contract

According to David Ornstein, Saliba is set to put pen to paper on a new five-year contract with the Gunners.

Despite interest from across Europe, the 24-year-old wanted to stay at Arsenal and will sign a new deal valid until 2030.

LaLiga titans Real Madrid had been understood to be interested in the centre-back, but will now likely turn to other targets.

Having recently entered the final two years of his current contract in N5, Saliba’s new deal will come as a huge boost for Arteta & Co.

The French international has made five appearances in all competitions this season, however, he has spent some time on the sidelines due to an ankle injury.

Saliba returned from his knock by playing every minute of Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Pep Guardiola’s Man City.

The defender also featured against Port Vale on Wednesday night, with the Gunners set to take on Brighton & Hove Albion in the fourth round.
