Barcelona news: Barca continue to chase Nico Williams as Ansu Fati nears AS Monaco move

The transfer window is already red hot, and Barcelona have been hard at work.

From new players, major exits and possible financial fair play constraints, tough decisions await Hansi Flick.

Transfer News Blitz writer Mitarth Tewari has rounded up all of the latest transfer gossip surrounding last season’s Spanish domestic treble-winning side.

The goalkeeper headache

Barcelona fought of Premier League opposition to sign Joan Garcia.

The Blaugrana revealed the signing of Joan Garcia from fierce rivals Espanyol last Wednesday.

The 24-year-old arrived as one of the best goalkeepers in LaLiga last year.

The new £21.3million signing has brought doubt into the future of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, who has fallen out of favour.

Barça’s sporting director, Deco, made it clear that Flick will have to choose between the two.

The German was also subject to an intense social media campaign from fans pleading for his departure.

Meanwhile, 35-year-old Wojciech Szczesny is set to stay as the backup goalkeeper.

A possible departure for Iñaki Peña is also on the cards.

The La Masia graduate filled in for the first half of last season when Ter Stegen suffered an ACL injury.

The annual courting of Nico Williams

Barcelona have once again intensified efforts to bring Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams to the Spotify Camp Nou.

Deco recently spoke publicly, highlighting the player’s desire to join the Catalan giants.

“He wants to come and we will try,” mentioned the sporting director.

This was not the case last summer as Williams chose to remain at Athletic for another season.

Barça are prepared to activate the winger's £50million release clause to secure the deal.

A signing for the future

Barcelona are also on the verge of completing a deal to sign Roony Bardghji from Copenhagen.

The 19-year-old winger will sign for a reported fee of £1.7million.

The Swede is expected to share his time between Barça’s first and second teams, providing squad depth.

A crowded defence

Ronald Araujo could depart Barcelona this summer.

Either Ronald Araujo or Andreas Christensen are expected to leave Barcelona this summer.

The situation is complicated as both players would be unwilling to leave the club.

However, Deco recently said that there is an ‘overcrowding’ issue in the position.

Barça would also need departures in order to secure the registration of new signings, as FFP issues still prevail.

Araujo came under heavy criticism last season and was even benched for Iñigo Martinez.

Meanwhile, Christensen suffered an injury-plagued season, only playing six games.

More exits expected

Ansu Fati is also on his way out, most likely on a loan to AS Monaco, who will have an option to buy.

Other possible departures for Barcelona include Pau Victor, Pablo Torre and Oriol Romeu.
