Liverpool news: Reds set to offload Darwin Nunez to Antonio Conte’s Napoli
Liverpool centre-forward Darwin Nunez looks set to be on the move this summer, with Serie A champions Napoli keen on the Uruguayan.
Following their Premier League triumph last term, the Reds have already parted ways with Caoimhin Kelleher and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
There have also been plenty of incomings at Anfield too, with Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong signing from Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen.
AFC Bournemouth and Hungary left-back Milos Kerkez is also set to move to Merseyside, so it is no surprise that Liverpool are keen to raise funds.
Napoli to go all out for Darwin Nunez
Ahead of a potential move for Nunez, Napoli have opened direct communications with Liverpool.
Negotiations remain at an early stage, however, the Uruguay international has reportedly given Antonio Conte’s side the green light, as per Fabrizio Romano.
Gli Azzurri are clearly keen to land Nunez, having made the 26-year-old their top target this summer.
Nunez signed for Liverpool in 2022 for a then-club record fee of £87million from Portuguese side Benfica, so the Reds will likely want to recoup a large portion of that fee.
Several clubs from the Saudi Pro League are also understood to be interested in the striker.
In need of a fresh start
Darwin Nunez celebrates winning the Premier League.
Despite becoming a Premier League champion, Nunez endured a frustrating campaign last term.
The centre-forward was only able to find the net seven times in 47 appearances - a poor return given Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz both hit double figures.
Nunez has struggled to hit the ground running since his arrival on Merseyside three years ago and has certainly not lived up to his hefty price tag.
As the Reds look longingly at Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, it may be time for the Uruguayan to move on.
Napoli are certainly a club on the up, having won the Serie A last season, and have an excellent track record of getting the best out of their players.
Former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay moved to Naples last August and has since become a cult hero.
Similarly, a fresh start in Italy could be just what Nunez needs to get back to his best.
