Liverpool news: Reds close in on deal for AFC Bournemouth star Milos Kerkez

Talks are ongoing between Liverpool and AFC Bournemouth for defender Milos Kerkez.

The Reds, who lifted the Premier League title in May, have been hard at work in the transfer market.

Right-back Jeremie Frimpong signed a five-year deal at Anfield, while German international Florian Wirtz is on the cusp of completing a move worth in excess of £120million.

According to Fabrizio Romano, negotiations between Liverpool and Bournemouth are ‘proceeding in the right direction’.

One more round of talks has reportedly been scheduled to get the deal over the line, with personal terms already in place.

The 21-year-old will set the Reds back around £40million.

It has been clear to see Andy Robertson’s decline over the last 12 months, with the Scotsman beginning to slow down.

The 31-year-old managed just one assist in the Premier League this season, and while this could be attributed to Arne Slot’s shift in tactics, the full-back has not been at his best.

On the other hand, Kerkez has excelled under Andoni Iraola for the Cherries this campaign, tallying eight goal involvements in the Premier League.

While the Hungarian enjoyed a solid debut season for Bournemouth in 2023, Kerkez has shone on the South Coast this term.

The left-back’s performances have drawn the attention of Europe’s elite, with Manchester United reportedly keen in January, but instead opting to sign Patrick Dorgu.

Unlike Frimpong, who was signed to directly replace Real Madrid new boy Trent Alexander-Arnold, it feels as though Kerkez is being brought in to compete with Robertson, not succeed him.

The Scottish international’s contract on Merseyside expires next June.
