Tottenham news: Spurs ready to hijack Bryan Mbeumo deal with Thomas Frank appointment
Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on a deal for Brentford boss Thomas Frank after Daniel Levy’s decision to sack Ange Postecoglou.
Spurs axed the Australian following a ‘review of performances’ and 'significant reflection’.
After leading the club to their first trophy since 2008, the Europa League, the decision to part ways with the 59-year-old has stirred huge backlash amongst supporters.
Although Spurs found success in Europe this season, under Postecoglou’s stewardship, the club finished 17th in the Premier League, in which they lost 22 games.
Thomas Frank keen on cross-London switch
Tottenham are keen to make a swift appointment with Brentford head coach Frank the leading candidate.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Dane wants the move and is keen on taking over the North London club.
The 51-year-old has enjoyed huge success in West London across nearly eight years in charge of the Bees.
Having gained promotion from the Championship with Brentford in 2021, Frank has since firmly established the club as a Premier League side.
Talks are progressing well, with Spurs ready to pay the Bees an £8million compensation package, as per Alan Nixon via Patreon.
Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi was reportedly also approached, however, the Italian turned down a return to the Premier League in favour of staying in France.
Tottenham Hotspur to enter Bryan Mbeumo race
Current Brentford duo Thomas Frank and Bryan Mbuemo.
With Frank seemingly set to join Spurs, the club are hopeful that they can convince Bees forward Bryan Mbeumo to follow the Dane to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Fellow Premier League side Manchester United are edging towards a £60million deal for the Cameroonian, who has already said yes to a move to Old Trafford.
However, as reported by Nixon, Tottenham can match the Red Devils financially, which would leave Mbeumo with a tough decision.
Of course, Spurs can offer the 25-year-old Champions League football, and are hoping to use Frank to seal the deal.
The Danish manager brought the forward to Brentford in 2019 from French outfit Troyes.
If the North Londoners can hijack the move, it will be a massive coup for Tottenham.
Mbuemo tallied 28 goal involvements in the Premier League this season, 12 more than Spurs’ James Maddison and Son Heung-Min.
