Man Utd news: Bryan Mbeumo wants Old Trafford move as Red Devils make first approach to Brentford
Manchester United are set to continue their summer transfer business with a move for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.
After what has been a hugely disappointing season, Ruben Amorim is expected to oust several first-team stars at Old Trafford this summer.
Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford are among those who could leave the club.
The Red Devils finished 16th in the Premier League and lost the Europa League final to Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Although United are keen to get back on track, having already completed a deal worth £62.5million for Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha.
Bryan Mbeumo keen on Manchester United transfer
Manchester United have submitted an opening offer worth £45million plus £10million in add-ons for Mbuemo, according to David Ornstein.
The Cameroonian is understood to prefer a move to Old Trafford this summer, having garnered interest from Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle United.
As per Fabrizio Romano, Brentford are hoping for a fee closer to the £70million mark, however, it is believed there is room to negotiate.
Mbeumo’s contract at the Gtech Community Stadium is set to expire next June, which could force the Bees’ hand to sell their starman, or risk losing him for free in 12 months.
An unstoppable season
Bryan Mbeumo has been on fire for Brentford in the Premier League this season.
During his four-year stint at the club, some would say Ivan Toney overshadowed the Cameroonian’s immense contributions.
After signing for Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli, the Englishman’s burden fell onto Mbeumo’s shoulders, but the forward has taken it in his stride.
The 25-year-old netted 20 Premier League goals and set up a further eight this season, an unbelievable output when playing for a mid-table side.
Mbeumo joined Brentford in 2019, while the West London club were still in the Championship, signing from French outfit Troyes.
The Cameroonian international bagged an impressive 41 goal contributions in the second tier, and made the jump up to the Premier League look seamless after the Bees gained promotion in 2021.
If United can complete a deal, it would be a significant coup for the Mancunians given the extensive interest in Mbeumo.
