Blackburn Rovers news: Danny Batth and Andreas Wiemman’s future unconfirmed as duo linked to EFL Championship rival
Danny Batth and Andreas Weimann are expected to leave Blackburn Rovers this summer, as their contracts are expiring this summer.
Both players have been important for Blackburn’s season, especially in terms of their experience, as Rovers have been reliant on youth talents over the past few years to fill out their squad.
Fellow Championship side Derby County are said to be interested in the Blackburn duo.
Why are Derby looking at Danny Batth?
Batth has played for many clubs in England over his career, including Norwich, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sunderland.
But it seems his time at Blackburn Rovers is coming to an end.
Over this season, the 34-year-old has shown his excellent experience in terms of defending, whilst also managing to score twice from set-pieces.
It is clear that Batth has been vital in the Blackburn defence this season, with him playing 41 times, so it is strange to see him leave on a free.
For Derby, this would be a fantastic signing.
The Rams will be losing both Nat Phillips and Sonny Bradley at the centre half position this summer.
Therefore, an experienced defender, such as Batth, would be a great signing to help them survive next season in the Championship.
Alongside this, manager John Eustace was the man to bring him in at Blackburn, which would help Derby’s cause, seeing as Batth has prior experience with the manager, despite it only being half a season.
Would Andreas Weimann suit Derby County?
Andreas Weimann celebrates a goal against Burnley.
Similarly, Andreas Weimann was also brought in by Eustace at Blackburn and had a fantastic season, winning over the Rovers fans early on for his strike against Burnley.
This season, Weimann netted seven goals from attacking midfield, which is impressive, as he was rotating with Todd Cantwell at the time in that role.
It’s clear Blackburn want Cantwell to be the main man next season, and will be looking to move on the 33-year-old, to replace him with younger players.
Derby do have a good range of attackers at the club, but none as versatile as Weimann.
The Austrian has played multiple positions over his career, ranging from out wide to up front.
This gives Eustace lots to work with, as Weimann can fit into many different game plans and cover for injuries if needed.
