Newcastle Utd news: Magpies ready to move for Joao Pedro after Bryan Mbuemo snub

Newcastle United are looking to step up their interest in Brighton & Hove Albion star Joao Pedro.

Eddie Howe’s side were reportedly keen on a move for Brentford attacker Bryan Mbuemo, who now looks set to join Manchester United.

The Brazilian forward has attracted plenty of attention from clubs in the Premier League and beyond following another successful campaign on the South Coast.

The 23-year-old bagged 10 goals for Fabian Hurzeler’s side this season.

Newcastle United can splash the cash

With PSR (Profit and Sustainability Rules) no longer hindering the club, the Magpies could look to spend big to bring the Brazilian to the Toon.

After securing Champions League football for next season, the club have gained more financial freedom and are in a better position to make a marquee signing this summer.

According to Sky Sports’ Rob Dorsett, Newcastle do not want to sell Alexander Isak and want to bring in another centre-forward, whether there are ‘departures or not’.

The North East club have previously shown interest in the Brazilian international, seeing a deal fall through in 2022 when Pedro was at Watford, which of course led to the signing of Isak.

How would Joao Pedro fit in?

Joao Pedro has been a standout performer for Brighton.

Pedro’s versatility along the frontline makes him a great option for Newcastle as they look to bolster the squad for the upcoming Champions League season.

The forward can play as the natural striker or drop into an attacking midfield role to create opportunities for his teammates.

Additionally, partnering up with fellow Brazilians Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton could boost team chemistry.
