Borussia Dortmund news: BVB set to sign Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland

Borussia Dortmund are closing in on a deal to sign Jobe Bellingham from freshly-promoted Sunderland.

Of course, the Bundesliga outfit signed Jude Bellingham from Birmingham City in 2020, eventually moving him on to Real Madrid three years later for £113million.

Now, the Black and Yellows are ready to bring the Madridista’s brother Jobe to Signal Iduna Park.

Niko Kovak’s side are expected to get the deal over the line before the end of the week.

Why Jobe Bellingham?

Jobe Bellingham has been integral in Sunderland’s promotion to the Premier League.

Since signing for Sunderland from Birmingham City in 2023, the new English ‘starboy’ has been instrumental in the Black Cats’ Premier League promotion this season.

The midfielder has impressed this season, having played 40 times in the Championship.

Four goals and three assists, as well as starting in the play-off final, is fantastic for a young defensive midfielder.

Regis Le Bris has deployed Bellingham in a variety of positions this campaign, showcasing the youngster's vital versatility.

How would Jobe Bellingham fit in at Borussia Dortmund?

This season, Dortmund have struggled to stick to the same plan.

Of course, the change in manager, from Nuri Sahin to Kovac in January, caused many tactical changes, however, BVB are yet to settle on a ‘three back’ or ‘four back’ style of play.

Alongside this, Dortmund’s midfield options have become incredibly slim.

Emre Can was dropped into the centre of the Germans’ defence from midfield, leaving Pascal Groß, Felix Nmecha, Marcel Sabitzer and Salih Özcan to fight for the remaining spots in midfield.

Bellingham would be instrumental in Kovac’s ‘three back’ style of play, as he could slot in many positions.

Dortmund have also had recent success in bringing in young English talents and turning them into superstars, such as Carney Chukwuemeka, Felix Nmecha and Jamie Gittens.
