Chelsea news: Enzo Maresca readies new offer for Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens

Chelsea are set to continue their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund forward Jamie Gittens.

The Blues have been actively on the hunt for a winger, and were keen to turn Jadon Sancho’s loan move from Manchester United into a permanent one.

However, the West Londoners were unable to agree on personal terms with the 25-year-old and have now shifted their attention to Gittens.

Enzo Maresca has already added Liam Delap to his squad, signing the Englishman for £35million from Ipswich Town.

Chelsea to improve Jamie Gittens offer

Borussia Dortmund rejected the Blues’ initial offer of just under £30million for Gittens, and are demanding £40-50 million for the youngster, as per Florian Plettenberg.

Negotiations are still ongoing between the two clubs, with Chelsea expected to make an improved bid.

The 20-year-old is understood to be keen on a move to Stamford Bridge and has already verbally agreed to join the club.

According to journalist Fabrice Hawkins, Chelsea have offered the England U21 international a seven-year contract, valid until 2032.

Fellow Premier League sides Arsenal and Newcastle United were also said to be interested in Gittens.

In what has been a disappointing campaign for Borussia Dortmund, Gittens has been one of the few bright sparks for the Germans.

Despite a tough start to the season, the Englishman was on fire up until the festive period, bagging 14 goal contributions in all competitions.

However, between the turn of the new year and May, Gittens’ form fell off a cliff, only managing three Bundesliga goals in that period.

This could be attributed to a change in tactics after Nuri Sahin was sacked and subsequently replaced with Niko Kovac midway through January.

But could Gittens do it in England?

Ofcourse, the youngster spent the majority of his youth career in the UK, enjoying spells at Reading and Manchester City, as well as a brief stint at Stamford Bridge.

Gittens undoubtedly has bags of talent, and aged just 20, the sky is truly the limit.

While the winger will face stiff competition at Chelsea for minutes, with Noni Madueke, Pedro Neto and the emerging Tyrique George to face off with, a move to the Premier League could be a good challenge.
