Chelsea news: Blues set to beat Manchester United to the signing of Liam Delap
Chelsea lifted the Conference League in midweek after coming from behind to thrash Spanish side Real Betis 4-1 in Poland.
The Blues’ historic win means they are the first team in history to win all five European club competitions.
Enzo Maresca’s side will compete in the Champions League next season, having finished fourth in the Premier League.
The Italian has already used Chelsea’s qualification to his advantage, with Ipswich Town centre-forward Liam Delap on the verge of a move to Stamford Bridge.
Liam Delap to join Chelsea
The Blues have reportedly reached an agreement with the Tractor Boys and are set to activate Delap’s £30million release clause, according to David Ornstein.
Personal terms are understood not to be an issue, with Maresca’s project and the prospect of playing in the Champions League a huge selling point for the 22-year-old.
Fellow Premier League sides Manchester United, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and Everton have all been made aware of Delap’s preference to sign for Chelsea.
Why is Liam Delap so sought after?
The long and short of it is that Delap scores goals.
Despite leading the line for a side that many wrote off before a ball had even been kicked, and subsequently got relegated, the Englishman has shone.
In his maiden Premier League campaign, the England U21 international bagged 12 goals, which equates to a whopping 33.3% of Ipswich’s top-flight goals this season.
Chelsea’s squad already oozes quality, and with the likes of Cole Palmer and Enzo Fernandez feeding him, Delap could become even more clinical.
The former Manchester City youngster is expected to spearhead the Blues’ attack next season, with Christopher Nkunku expected to depart Stamford Bridge over the summer.
