Barcelona news: Gemma Font and Marta Torrejon sign new deals with Pere Romeu’s side
Barcelona Femeni have announced contract extensions for two of their key players, Gemma Font and Marta Torrejon.
The duo extend their stay as the Spanish giants continue their ongoing efforts to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming season.
Here, Transfer News Blitz writer Nerea Fernandes gives the lowdown on the Barca pair’s new deals.
Marta Torrejon: a club legend continues
Barcelona veteran Marta Torrejon.
Veteran right-back Torrejon is preparing to enter her 13th season at Barca as she has signed a new contract valid until 2026.
After joining the club in 2012, the 35-year-old has made 465 appearances and scored 72 goals – the most ever by a defender in Barcelona’s history.
Her remarkable contribution includes a pivotal goal in the 1-0 victory over Levante Badalona during the 2024/25 Liga F season, a result that clinched the league title for Barcelona.
Ahead of the upcoming campaign, Torrejon is expected to take on a more central role in defence.
Renowned for her pace, technique and versatility, the Spaniard is equally comfortable playing as a centre-half or full-back.
Her aerial strength also remains a key asset during attacking set pieces.
Wearing the No.8 shirt, Torrejon has been instrumental in Barcelona’s historic success.
Over her career with Barca, she has won 30 major trophies, including three UEFA Women’s Champions League titles, eight Spanish Super Cups and eight Copa de la Reina titles.
Gemma Font: rising star between the posts
Goalkeeper Font has also extended her stay, signing a new deal that will keep her at Barcelona until 2027.
The 25-year-old, who serves as the club’s second-choice shot stopper behind Cata Coll, continues to prove her worth when called upon.
In the 2024/25 season, Font featured in eight matches and conceded just two goals, underlining her reliability and composure.
A product of Barca’s youth system, she made her senior debut in the Catalan Cup during the 2018/19 season at just 18 years old.
Font later debuted in European competition in the 2022 Champions League, contributing to a 5-0 away win over Fortuna Hjørring.
Now entering her seventh season with the first team, Font has already collected 21 titles.
Known for her composure and ball-playing ability, she is regarded as a vital part of the squad's depth and Barcelona’s future plans.
Building for continued dominance
With these contract extensions, Barcelona have not only retained two key figures from their trophy-laden era but also ensured continuity and leadership within a competitive squad.
As the 2025/26 season approaches, the club’s ambitions remain clear: to stay at the summit of European football, blending experience with emerging talent.
