Chelsea news: Blues and Liverpool leading the race for AFC Bournemouth and Spain defender Dean Huijsen

After an impressive debut campaign in the Premier League, AFC Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen is one of the most sought-after players in Europe.

The Spaniard only moved to the South Coast last summer, joining the Cherries from Serie A giants Juventus.

Signed for just £12.6million, Andoni Iraola’s side are set to make a huge profit on the defender, who has a £50million release clause.

Chelsea and Liverpool in pole position

Amongst the sides battling for Huijsen’s signature, fellow Premier League clubs Chelsea and Liverpool are leading the pack, as per TEAMtalk.

The Blues are believed to have offered a more tempting financial package than Arne Slot’s men, but that does not mean a move to Merseyside is off the cards.

However, the 20-year-old is said to be sold on Enzo Maresca’s project at Stamford Bridge.

LaLiga titan Real Madrid are reportedly also keen on a move for Huijsen, but could look to cheaper alternatives.

Bournemouth are seemingly resigned to losing their star defender, with the Cherries identifying Inter Milan’s Yann Bisseck and Nantes' Nathan Zeze as possible replacements.

What makes Dean Huijsen so good?

Huijsen is everything a modern central defender needs to be - fast, strong and good on the ball.

The Spanish international has appeared to be one step ahead this season, being able to comfortably anticipate his opponent's next move.

Having won 69.7% of his tackles and 61% of his aerial duels in the Premier League this season, Huijsen would be a huge asset to any backline.

Still considered a youngster, the defender could be a stalwart in the Chelsea defence for years to come.
