Man City news: Serie A side Napoli eyeing deal for City and England winger Jack Grealish

Napoli are reportedly plotting a move to sign England international Jack Grealish from Manchester City.

The 29-year-old has fallen out of favour at the Etihad Stadium in recent years.

With that in mind, Transfer News Blitz writer Dejan Johal has looked at the logistics of a move to Naples for the former Aston Villa man.

Napoli keen on Jack Grealish

After Napoli’s successful signings of Premier League pair Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour, it seems as if the Italian club are looking to the English top-flight once again.

As per The Sun, Gli Azzurri’s sporting director, Giovanni Manna, is now targeting Manchester City forward Jack Grealish.

Napoli manager Antonio Conte is a big fan of Grealish from his days as Chelsea manager.

Since the Englishman is not regarded as a first-team player by Man City boss Pep Guardiola, a move could make sense for all parties.

Where has it gone wrong for Jack Grealish?

Four or five years ago, Grealish was widely considered one of England’s most exciting and talented players.

Compared to English greats such as Paul Gascoigne, Grealish has failed to reach the high expectations set at the Etihad Stadium.

The tricky forward bagged 31 goals and 42 assists at Aston Villa and had a real purple patch of form for a few years, including helping England reach the final of Euro 2020.

After these fantastic performances, Manchester City decided to break the bank for the Englishman, spending £100million for his signature.

Despite moments of quality in a sky blue shirt, the forward has mostly struggled to consistently perform and showcase his quality since he arrived in 2021.

Grealish has only 17 goals in 156 appearances for City, with this season being his most underwhelming season in terms of output.

He has only started seven games in the Premier League this season, with one goal and one assist, leaving fans to wonder why this signing has failed so dramatically.

With the likes of Phil Foden and Savinho in the same position, the Englishman has faced a lot of competition for a starting spot.

A departure may be the only way for him to recapture his glittering form that made him one of the most talked-about players in Europe.

Where would Jack Grealish fit into Napoli’s plans?

With a transfer away looking more and more likely for him, Napoli might be the club that can get the best out of Grealish if a move goes through.

Napoli play a 4-3-3 formation with David Neres on the left wing, who consistently cuts in on his right foot.

This is a key feature of Grealish’s game and was a reason as to why he was so successful at Aston Villa.

Napoli also play a similar kind of way to how Aston Villa played, with other hard-working players who work tirelessly around him.

This allowed Grealish to have the freedom to operate at his own pace and play his natural game at Villa, which could prove to have similar results if he moved to Naples.

And despite the struggles at City, players can always find a way back, and for him, a transfer away to a club like Napoli could do wonders in reviving his career.
