Chelsea news: Blues close in on Ajax defender Jorrel Hato and RB Leipzig forward Xavi Simons

Chelsea are set to complete a double swoop for Dutch duo Jorrel Hato and Xavi Simons.

The Blues, who lifted the FIFA Club World Cup in July, have already been busy this summer.

Jamie Gittens was signed from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth just over £50million.

Whereas Joao Pedro and Liam Delap were brought in from Brighton & Hove Albion and freshly-relegated Ipswich Town.

Versatile Ajax defender Hato is expected to be the next arrival at Stamford Bridge, with a deal reportedly close.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have already reached a total agreement with the Dutchman on personal terms.

Club-to-club negotiations are set to continue this week, with the Blues set to splash upwards of £40million on the 19-year-old, as per David Ornstein.

Primarily a left-back, Hato can also play as a central defender, which could prove to be a valuable asset in a campaign across several competitions.

Plunged into the deep end at just 16, the defender was given his senior debut in February 2023 and has just over two-and-a-half years of first-team experience already.

Hato will move to West London off the back of a hugely successful season, with nine goal involvements across 50 appearances.

Xavi Simons wants Chelsea move

Xavi Simons was unlucky with injuries last season.

Chelsea are also closing in on a move to sign Dutch international Simons from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.

Enzo Maresca has been keen to bring in another forward to replace Noni Madueke, who recently joined London rivals Arsenal.

Simons is understood to be keen on a move to Stamford Bridge, with the Blues still in discussions over the fee and structure of a potential deal, as reported by Romano.

Despite an injury-plagued season last term, the 22-year-old still managed 19 goal contributions in 33 appearances.

Able to play on the left or in attacking midfield, the Dutchman would offer some fantastic cover in multiple positions for Chelsea.

The West Londoners have recruited smartly so far this summer, and Hato and Simons will both be superb additions.
