Eintracht Frankfurt news: Dino Toppmoller signs SC Freiburg forward Ritsu Doan close

SC Freiburg star Ritsu Doan has completed a switch to fellow Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt.

Dino Toppmoller’s side have agreed a deal worth £22million for the Japan international.

The 27-year-old will become the third most expensive Japanese player of all time.

Frankfurt were in need of a new forward to replace Hugo Ekitike, who joined Premier League champions Liverpool this summer.

What to expect from Ritsu Doan?

Throughout his career, Doan has played in numerous positions, on either flank or through the middle as an attacking midfielder.

The Japanese forward has shown his electric pace in the Bundesliga, as well as a strong ability to beat players in the final third.

Over three seasons at Freiburg, Doan has scored 26 goals and set up a further 23 in 123 appearances.

Last term was Doan’s best-performing season at the club, having tallied 18 goal involvements, so it is understandable why a top side like Frankfurt were so keen.

How would Ritsu Doan fit in at Eintracht Frankfurt?

Frankfurt’s current attacking options consist of stars such as Michy Batshuayi, Elye Wahi, Ansgar Knauff and Jean-Matteo Bahoya.

Three strikers and two wingers mean Doan will likely be deployed out wide.

If Frankfurt play the same way as last season, we could see Doan utilised as a ‘shadow striker’ in a 3-4-2-1 formation, in a similar role to what Ekitike and Omar Marmoush played in.
