Everton news: Toffees ready to rival Newcastle United for Jack Grealish after FIFA Club World Cup snub

Premier League duo Everton and Newcastle United are reportedly keen on a deal to sign Manchester City forward Jack Grealish.

The 29-year-old has fallen out of favour at the Etihad Stadium, having been limited to just 20 Premier League outings last season.

Alongside Kyle Walker, the left winger was axed from City’s squad for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup by Pep Guardiola.

Everton want ‘statement’ signing

Ahead of their move to Bramley-Moore Dock, Everton are hoping to make a ‘statement signing’ and are interested in taking Grealish on loan, according to the Mail Online.

The Englishman’s huge £300,000-a-week wages are understood to be a potential stumbling block.

While talks between the clubs are yet to take place, the Toffees are aware of the Englishman’s availability.

Jack Grealish on Newcastle United radar

As per Alan Nixon via Patreon, Newcastle United are also understood to be weighing up a move for the former Aston Villa man.

Eddie Howe would reportedly make the signing a ‘priority’ if offers were to come in for starman Anthony Gordon this summer.

The Mancunians would need to pay a portion of Grealish’s wages, which could stand in the way of a potential deal.

Where has it all gone wrong for Jack Grealish?

It has been a tough campaign for Jack Grealish at Manchester City.

In August 2021, Manchester City signed Grealish from Aston Villa for a club-record £100million fee.

Four years on, the forward is now set to leave Manchester, but where did it all go wrong?

Grealish has become a serial winner at City, adding three Premier League titles, an FA Cup, Club World Cup, Super Cup and Champions League to his trophy case.

However, the England international has never truly flourished in the North West.

In Guardiola’s ‘machine-like’ regime at the Etihad, Grealish has somewhat had his wings clipped.

At boyhood club Villa, the winger was the main man - the team played around his abilities - but it has been a different story in Manchester City’s star-studded squad.

During his time at Villa Park, Grealish netted 75 goal contributions in 213 appearances, a clear contrast to the 35 involvements in 157 games at Man City.

While the winger’s time with the Cityzens cannot be considered a failure, it could be described as fairly underwhelming.

Looking to the future, if Grealish can secure a move this summer, there is every chance that he will be able to get back to his very best, and at a club like Everton or Newcastle, that could prove to be invaluable.
