Cristiano Ronaldo news: CR7 confirms transfer future after Portugal win the National League

Cristiano Ronaldo is set to stay at Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr.

The Portuguese superstar scored a 61st-minute equaliser in the Nations League final as Roberto Martinez’s side eventually triumphed over Spain 5-3 on penalties.

It is the second time that Portugal have lifted the Nations League, having previously won the competition in 2019.

Cristiano Ronaldo to stay at Al-Nassr

Cristiano Ronaldo has been on fire for Al-Nassr this season.

Speaking ahead of Portugal’s clash with Spain, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner confirmed that he will not participate in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.

Ronaldo explained that he had received “many invitations and proposals” ahead of the competition this summer, but had to “think about the short, medium and long term.”

It was after Portugal’s Nations League win that the 40-year-old all but committed his future to current club Al-Nassr.

He said: “My future? Basically, nothing is going to change. Staying at Al-Nassr? Yeah.”

The forward’s contract with the Saudi Pro League club is set to expire at the end of June, with Ronaldo stating that the “chapter was over” on social media last month.

However, the Al-Nassr captain now looks set to extend his stay in the Middle East.

Aged like a fine wine

Cristiano Ronaldo scored the equaliser for Portugal in the Nations League final.

Most footballers would be enjoying retirement at 40, but Ronaldo has continued to do what many can only dream of.

The Portuguese international is still firmly at the top of his game and has shown no signs of slowing down.

Ronaldo banged in 35 goals in 41 appearances for Al-Nassr this campaign, a remarkably impressive feat given the Saudi Pro League’s growing reputation.

The centre-forward has now scored a whopping 938 goals for club and country, and is swiftly approaching a millennium.

While Ronaldo’s career is certainly beginning to wind down, it feels as though he has at least one more move up his sleeve somewhere down the line.
