Liverpool news: Arne Slot wants ‘outstanding’ Crystal Palace and England midfielder Adam Wharton
Celebrations have been in full flow on the red half of Merseyside as Liverpool were crowned Premier League champions following a comfortable 5-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Arne Slot’s attention will now turn to the summer transfer window, where the Dutchman will look to reinforce his squad ahead of next season.
Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk will both be ready to defend their Premier League title, having signed new contracts at Anfield earlier this month.
Liverpool target Adam Wharton
The Reds are looking to add to their midfield this summer with Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton at the top of their shopping list, according to Alan Nixon via Patreon.
Liverpool are focused on bringing ‘outstanding’ midfield talent to Anfield who can play at the heart of Slot’s side.
Wharton, who has been frustrated by a groin injury this season, would need assurances over game time if a move was to materialise.
With Liverpool able to offer the Englishman Champions League football, there is every possibility that Wharton could move back to the North West.
How good is Adam Wharton?
The 21-year-old signed for Palace from Blackburn Rovers in January 2024 and has looked right at home in the Premier League ever since.
After just 35 matches in the English top-flight, Wharton has established himself as one of the best midfielders outside of the traditional ‘top six’.
Wharton’s impressive performances earned him a call-up to England’s EURO 2024 squad, where he received his first senior cap in the build-up to the competition.
It seems like only a matter of time until one of Europe’s elite comes calling for the midfielder.
Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are both understood to be monitoring the England international, however, their interest is not currently concrete.
