Liverpool news: Newcastle United talisman Alexander Isak understood to have agreed long-term deal with Reds

Arne Slot’s Liverpool have been on a summer onslaught, having signed some of Europe’s most exciting talents.

Having added former Bayer Leverkusen duo Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, as well as Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike to their squad, the Premier League champions have surely increased their chance of retaining their title.

Furthermore, with Alexander Isak seemingly looking for a way out of Newcastle United, the Merseysiders are in pole position to sign the Swede.

Deal in the pipeline for Alexander Isak

Alexander Isak has been a machine for Newcastle United.

According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Isak has already approved a five-year deal with Liverpool.

The Swedish international is understood to be keen on a move to Merseyside, as per Sky Sports.

Supposedly, the Reds plan to make a bid in the region of £100million, but Newcastle are expected to hold out for closer to £120million.

However, Magpies boss Eddie Howe confirmed an offer is yet to be made by any club, and is hopeful to keep hold of the 25-year-old.

He said: “He is still contracted to us, so we, to a degree, control what's next for him.

“My wish has always been that he stays and that we see him again playing next year.”

Notably, the forward, who bagged 27 goals in all competitions last season, was left out of Newcastle’s squad for their pre-season tour.

Newcastle United scramble to find striker

With it looking increasingly more likely that the North East outfit will be a striker short, Newcastle are in serious need of another centre forward.

William Osula is set to act as sole backup in the wake of Callum Wilson’s departure, meaning the Magpies are notably light up front.

Howe’s side have reportedly made an approach for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, who has emerged as a key target.

However, fellow Premier League side Manchester United are also said to be keen, but have already spent big on Bryan Mbuemo and Matheus Cunha this summer.

Should Newcastle be able to bring in the Slovenian, who scored 21 goals last term, they will be in good stead next season, even if without Isak.

Ultimately, Liverpool look to be in a very strong position to retain their Premier League crown.

With the possible addition of Isak to a front line that already consists of Mohamed Salah, Ekitike and Wirtz, the Reds will be lethal.
