Man Utd news: Could Kobbie Mainoo leave Manchester United before Deadline Day?

England and Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo could leave Old Trafford before Deadline Day on Monday, September 1.

With just under a week until the summer transfer window slams shut, several first-team stars could depart the Red Devils.

Out-of-favour Danish forward Rasmus Hojlund is expected to return to the Serie A, while Alejandro Garnacho could still leave for fellow Premier League side Chelsea.

Ruben Amorim is keen to bring in more reinforcements, including a new goalkeeper after Altay Bayindir’s less-than-impressive start to the season.

Belgian shot stopper Senne Lammens is reportedly set to move to Manchester as a key United target.

Kobbie Mainoo’s contract situation

It has been rumoured for some time that academy graduate Mainoo could well leave Manchester United in search of a better contract.

The 20-year-old has been after a new deal at Old Trafford for some time, however, the United hierarchy has been reluctant to meet his demands.

Currently on a reported £20,000-a-week, the Stockport-born midfielder, who joined the club’s academy aged nine, is thought to want a new contract worth up to £150,000-a-week.

With Mainoo’s current deal set to expire in June 2027, the Red Devils may decide to cash in on the youngster while they still can.

Of course, if Man United do decide to sell, the England international would offer the club a pure 100% profit, and with growing PSR concerns, that could prove tempting.

Where could Kobbie Mainoo go?

According to talkSPORT, Mainoo would consider leaving his boyhood club if the Red Devils received a suitable offer before Deadline Day.

The Englishman has been an unused substitute in both of Manchester United’s opening Premier League games against Arsenal and Fulham.

Enzo Marseca’s Chelsea have long been admirers of the midfielder and could look to reignite their interest.

Mainoo has also previously expressed an interest in exploring a move abroad.

Clearly down in the pecking order at Old Trafford, a move away could be tempting for Mainoo, who will want to play regular first-team football to further aid his development.

That being said, with just 37 appearances in all competitions in a poor season for United last term, it would be hard to justify putting Mainoo on such high wages.
