Man Utd news: Viktor Gyokeres ‘furious’ as Sporting up asking price amid Saudi Pro League interest
Victor Gyokeres is one of Europe’s most sought-after centre-forwards right now, with clubs across the continent pining for a chance at the Swede’s signature.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Al-Hilal are understood to be the frontrunners, with the Red Devils seemingly at the front of the pack.
Having tallied 66 goal involvements in 52 games this season, the 27-year-old is sure to attract a substantial fee should he be lured away from Sporting Lisbon this summer.
A ‘gentleman’s’ agreement
Viktor Gyokeres led Sporting to the league title last season.
Despite a reported £84million release clause, it was understood that Gyokeres has a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Sporting, meaning he could leave the club for just £60million this summer.
However, according to Portuguese outlet Record, the club have reportedly gone back on their word amid links from Saudi Arabia.
Sporting are said to have upped their asking price to £67million, which has put off the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea.
Understandably, Gyokeres is furious with the Primeira Liga club and has since removed any mention of the club from his Instagram bio.
It is no secret that money is no issue for clubs in the Saudi Pro League, with an official proposal made to the Swede.
That included a staggering £30million-a-year wage packet, however, stating his ambition to play at the highest level, the Swedish international turned down the offer.
Manchester United remain keen
This leaves Man United as practically the sole outfit prepared to pay up Gyokeres, who is demanding a £250,000-a-week salary.
It was understood that the Red Devils all but had a deal wrapped up if they had secured Champions League football next season, but of course, Ruben Amorim’s men were beaten by Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.
Should the United boss be reunited with the main man from his time at Sporting, the Mancunians would surely be set to battle for a spot in the top four.
