Newcastle Utd news: Liam Delap linked with a move to St. James’ Park

As Newcastle United head towards a return to European football - potentially in the Champions League - Eddie Howe will need to reinforce his squad.

Ipswich Town forward Liam Delap has attracted huge interest from the top clubs in the country, and with relegation confirmed for the Tractor Boys, a summer move could be on the cards.

Newcastle hopeful to sign Liam Delap and keep Alexander Isak

With figures of £50million spoken about all season, the Magpies could strike lucky, as the 22-year-old has a £30million release clause in his Ipswich contract.

Many recent headlines have focused on Alexander Isak, as the Swede has been linked with a move away from Newcastle to newly crowned Premier League champions Liverpool and Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

However, Toon supporters will be hopeful the 25-year-old stays at St James’ Park this summer, especially with Champions League football potentially on offer.

How important has Liam Delap been to Ipswich Town?

As for Delap, he has netted 12 times and made a further two assists in his first full season in the Premier League.

The Englishman is still young and has shown the potential of a future superstar in a struggling Ipswich Town side.

Over 36% of Ipswich’s goals have come from Delap, so it is no surprise he has attracted interest from the biggest sides in the Premier League.

Speaking ahead of his side’s 3-0 win over the Suffolk-based club, Newcastle boss Howe was full of praise for the centre-forward.

He said: “I think he’s had a very good season. He’s got big strengths, he’s very strong, a powerful runner and certainly knows where the goal is.”

Could the 47-year-old have been hinting at a potential summer pursuit of Delap?
