Arsenal news: When will Eberechi Eze sign for the Gunners? Mikel Arteta beats Tottenham Hotspur to the England international

Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace, in one of the biggest twists of the summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old had been expected to sign for Tottenham Hotspur, having all but signed on the dotted line.

However, following a late move by Mikel Arteta, Eze is set to complete a huge U-turn to N5.

Under new sporting director Andrea Berta, the Gunners have enjoyed a massive spending spree this summer.

Kepa Arrizabalaga and Noni Madueke have been brought in from Chelsea, alongside Brentford captain Christian Norgaard.

LaLiga duo Cristhian Mosquera and Martin Zubimendi have also moved to the Emirates Stadium, with striker Viktor Gyokeres being Arsenal’s most recent addition.

Why are Arsenal signing Eberechi Eze?

The Gunners had been linked with a move for Eze earlier this summer, but had significantly cooled their interest after Ethan Nwaneri’s contract extension.

However, with Kai Havertz now set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to a knee injury, the Reds quickly reignited their interest.

Arsenal will now sign the England international in a deal worth around £68million, having matched the terms Spurs were willing to pay, according to David Ornstein.

It is understood that Eze has always wanted to join Arsenal, with an agreement on personal terms already in place.

When will Arsenal sign Eberechi Eze?

The midfielder is expected to turn out for Crystal Palace in their Europa Conference League tie against Norwegian side Fredrikstad on Thursday, August 21.

Eze will then reportedly have his Arsenal medical on Friday, August 22.

Depending on how quickly the Gunners complete the deal and announce the signing, Eze could be available for selection against Leeds United at the weekend.

Arsenal kicked off their Premier League campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
