Atletico Madrid news: Diego Simeone close to sealing third summer transfer after underwhelming FIFA Club World Cup

A summer rebuild now looks to be on the cards with Diego Simeone’s side on pace to spend £100million for the second summer in a row.

The £43 million attack boost

Atletico have reportedly reached an agreement with Villarreal for Alex Baena.
The Spanish winger has been a key player in LaLiga and will bolster Simeone’s attack.
Alexander Sorloth will benefit from this signing, having played with Baena at Villarreal.
The Yellow Submarine’s manager, Marcelino Garcia Toral, all but confirmed the rumours and assured that the transfer would help the 23-year-old.
“I’m sure Simeone will find the ideal situation for Baena to get the most out of his game,” he told Cadena SER.
Solid at the back
Atletico are also on the verge of signing Matteo Ruggeri from Atalanta, who will cost the club approximately £17million.
The 22-year-old had a good season, performing well in the Serie A and for Italy at the U21 Euros.
Liverpool’s Andy Robertson and Aston Villa’s Lucas Digne were also considered, but the Italian seemed to have edged it because of his age.

Midfield rejuvenation
Johnny Cardoso will also be making his way to the Metropolitano.
A deal valued at around £30million has been agreed with Real Betis for the transfer of the American.
The midfielder had a good season, helping to secure European football for Betis.
