Blackburn Rovers news: Sean McLoughin seals move to Ewood Park as Dion De Neve off to good start

With the season narrowly approaching, Valerian Ismael is beginning to build a squad fit to fight in the Championship next season.

The Frenchman added former Hull City defender Sean McLoughlin to his side on the day of Rovers’ 1-0 pre-season win over Premier League Everton.

The 28-year-old centre-half comes in off the back of a good campaign with East Coast.

The Irish defender can provide cover centrally and at left-back, which he showed during his six-year spell with the Tigers.

With Hayden Carter set to be ruled with a potential long-term injury, an alternative defender was needed, and McLoughlin is a great addition.

Dion De Neve off the mark

The only summer signing to feature during Blackburn’s two pre-season friendlies is Belgian winger Dion De Neve.

The 24-year-old looked good against Accrington Stanley last week, but notably found the back of the net for the only goal of the game against Everton, finishing off a brilliant team move.

Callum Brittain’s cross found Todd Cantwell, who dummied in the penalty area, to find an unmarked De Neve at the back post.

Several of Blackburn’s academy players also featured against the Toffees and caught the eyes of fans and possibly even the manager.

Blackburn Rovers make trip to Spain

Blackburn Rovers’ Spain pre-season trip.

Blackburn Rovers jetted off to Spain earlier this week, with plenty of new faces included in Ismael’s 28-man squad.

For Rovers supporters, there was one big sigh of relief to see Brittain travel with the squad, after the defender was rumoured to exit the club this summer.

Ryan Alebiosu and McLoughlin have also made the trip as the duo looks to make their first appearances for Blackburn.

Portuguese midfielder has been brought along despite his injury, which could signal a return to action soon.

What is happening with Moussa Baradji?

After a medical hitch, Blackburn’s offer for Frenchman Moussa Baradji was stalled, however, it looks like Ismael’s side could be getting their new midfielder after all.

According to reports, Rovers are looking to offer the 24-year-old a deal incentivised by the number of games he plays, rather than a base salary.

With the Championship comes many injuries, so another solid player for the middle of the park would be very useful, and this move may help Blackburn save some precious pounds.
