Everton news: Toffees open talks with Manchester City for Jack Grealish
Everton are readying a move for England and Manchester City forward Jack Grealish.
The Toffees have already reinforced their front line with Villarreal centre forward Thierno Barry in a deal worth £27million.
Southampton star Tyler Dibling was also on David Moyes’ radar, but the Merseysiders saw a recent approach rejected by the Championship club.
The Scotsman is clearly still keen to beef up his squad, which is looking increasingly light ahead of the upcoming Premier League season.
Everton in talks for Jack Grealish
Unable to strike a deal with the Saints for Dibling, Everton have now turned their attention to Grealish.
According to David Ornstein, the Toffees have opened talks with Manchester City over a potential season-long loan move for the 29-year-old.
While the deal is described as “complicated” and “not guaranteed”, discussions are well underway for the out-of-favour City star.
Does Jack Grealish need a fresh start?
Jack Grealish spent a lot of time on the bench last season.
Following a huge £100million switch from Aston Villa to Manchester City in August 2021, big things were expected of Grealish.
With three Premier League titles, a Champions League, a Club World Cup and an FA Cup, the forward has certainly enjoyed a successful spell in the North West.
However, in recent seasons, Grealish has seen his minutes dramatically drop, falling behind the likes of Jeremy Doku, Phil Foden and Savinho in the City pecking order.
The Englishman was limited to just 10 Premier League starts last term and 32 appearances in all competitions.
With only two goal involvements in the Premier League last season, it is safe to say that Grealish had an underwhelming campaign.
Having been notably left out of Pep Guardiola’s FIFA Club World Cup squad this summer, the England international may not be in the Spaniard’s plans going forward.
Everton offers a fresh start for Grealish and an opportunity to get back to his best from his Aston Villa days.
With the winger’s reportedly huge £300,000-a-week wages, whether a deal can be struck is unknown.
