Man Utd news: Can Brighton & Hove Albion keep Carlos Baleba? Ruben Amorim keen on midfielder

Manchester United face an uphill battle to land Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba.

The Red Devils have spent big this summer, with the arrivals of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

Ruben Amorim’s squad is certainly beginning to shape up ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign, with more acquisitions expected.

United kick off their season with a tough fixture at Old Trafford against Arsenal on Sunday, August 17.

Can Manchester United afford any more signings?

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United will reportedly need to raise funds in order to continue their summer splurge.

The Red Devils have spent a huge £197million so far this summer, and are yet to make any sales.

However, Argentine forward Alejandro Garnacho is expected to depart for Chelsea in a deal that could raise up to £50million.

Jadon Sancho and Rasmus Hojlund are also expected to leave the club before Deadline Day on Monday, September 1.

Brighton & Hove Albion stand firm

It is no secret that United are huge admirers of Cameroon international Baleba.

The 21-year-old has emerged as one of the Premier League’s brightest young midfielders since arriving on the South Coast with Brighton in 2023.

Following Man United’s interest, Seagulls boss Fabian Hurzeler has made the club’s stance clear.

He said: “I am very, very confident Baleba will stay with us.”

As per Romano, Brighton are keen to keep the midfielder at the Amex and eventually look to sell him next year.

While the Red Devils remain keen, Amorim is expected to turn his attention to other targets this summer.
