Man Utd news: Red Devils poised to land Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap

Manchester United are closing in on a deal to sign Wolves forward Matheus Cunha, as well as Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap.

The Brazilian is set to join Old Trafford this summer, with recent reports claiming Man Utd are ready to trigger Cunha’s transfer clause – making him the Red Devils’ first signing of the summer window.

Cunha has been instrumental in steering the West Midlands side away from relegation, scoring 15 goals and providing six assists in 31 Premier League games.

Man Utd are also reportedly interested in Delap, who has netted 12 goals in 36 appearances as the Tractor Boys face relegation to the Championship.

Cunha on the move as Red Devils pounce

Sky Sports News revealed on Monday that the Manchester-based club are ready to trigger the £62.5million clause in his contract, as Cunha waved off interest from other clubs, signalling his intention to play for Man Utd.

Earlier, Fabrizio Romano claimed via X that personal terms were close to being finalised before the move could be completed.

A versatile attacker capable of playing up front, as a number 10, or out wide, the 25-year-old would bring much-needed firepower to a depleted United frontline that has managed just 42 goals in 37 league games this season.

Cunha faced intense transfer speculation in January, with reports linking him to a move away from Wolves before he ultimately signed a new contract.

Now, he appears destined for a switch to a club currently sitting two places below Wolves in the Premier League table.

Yet he could mark the beginning of a rebuild under Amorim next season.

The Portuguese manager is aiming to restore United to its former glory – a mission that would receive a boost with victory over Tottenham Hotspur in Wednesday’s Europa League final.

According to The Athletic journalist Laurie Whitwell, Man Utd have been granted permission from Ipswich to hold talks with Delap over a potential move to Old Trafford.

The Englishman is considering all of his options – including Chelsea – before making a decision.

With a relegation release clause of around £30million, Delap would add a proper focal point to United’s strikeforce and offer a consistent goalscoring threat.

Both Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund have managed just seven league goals between them, with the Danish striker showing his best form in Europe, scoring six times in 14 Europa League appearances.

Whitwell also confirmed that Man Utd would be able to pay Cunha’s release clause in three instalments.
