Chelsea news: Alejandro Garnacho closes in on Stamford Bridge link-up with Enzo Maresca

Chelsea have agreed a £40million deal with Manchester United to sign winger Alejandro Garnacho, in what will go down as the most expensive academy sale in the Red Devils’ history.

The move also includes a 10% sell-on clause, making it one of the club’s biggest transfers in recent years.

Here we go…finally

The 21-year-old had fallen out of favour under manager Ruben Amorim, missing out on pre-season and the start of the Premier League campaign.

With his future at Old Trafford uncertain, Garnacho made it clear that Enzo Maresca’s side was the only club he wanted to join.

United rejected an opening bid of £25million, but after further talks, the two clubs struck an agreement at £40 million.

Fresh firepower for Chelsea, a clean break for United

For Man United, the deal represents both a clean break and a financial boost.

The North West club cashes in on a player who no longer featured in Amorim’s plans, while Chelsea add yet another exciting forward to their squad.

The Blues have already brought in Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Estevao and Jamie Gittens this summer, and Garnacho’s arrival adds more depth and flair to their attack.

Garnacho leaves Old Trafford having made 144 appearances and scored 26 goals since signing from Atlético Madrid’s youth system in 2020.

His pace, creativity and ability to produce in big moments made him a fan favourite, but his time in Manchester has now reached its end.

He is expected to complete his medical shortly before finalising the move to Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea hope he can develop into a key figure in their push for silverware.

For Garnacho, this is a fresh start.

For United, it is the end of one chapter and profit, while for Chelsea, it’s more fuel to continue their uphill climb.
