Tottenham analysis: What is next for Spurs? Four players Thomas Frank could turn to after Eberechi Eze snub

Tottenham Hotspur suffered yet another embarrassment yesterday after missing out on Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze.

Spurs’ £68million move for the 27-year-old was hijacked by North London rivals Arsenal.

With less than two weeks left of the summer transfer window, Tottenham will now have to pivot to other targets.

Thomas Frank is reportedly after two players who can play in an advanced midfield role.

This comes after England international James Maddison suffered an ACL injury in pre-season.

Swedish star Dejan Kulusevski is also out for the North London side, having been sidelined for some months with a knee injury.

Here, Transfer News Blitz writer Louie Rudge Ferro looks at four players Tottenham could now move for.

Nico Paz, Como 1907

Spurs were reportedly weighing up a move for Como midfielder Nico Paz earlier this summer, and could now reignite their pursuit.

The 20-year-old played 35 times for the Italian side last season, scoring six goals and registering eight assists.

The Argentine’s last goal came in a 2-0 win against Fiorentina in February, despite being known for a willingness to shoot on goal.

Paz also stands out defensively, with over 1.5 tackles per game last season.

With a rumoured price tag of around €40million, it would make sense for Spurs to move on for such a promising youngster.

Unfortunately for Frank, LaLiga titans Real Madrid have a buy-back clause, with rumours that the Argentine would prefer a move back to Spain.

Morgan Rogers, Aston Villa

Spurs could also take a look at former Manchester City youth player, Morgan Rogers.

Aston Villa’s breakout player last season ended the 2024/25 campaign with 18 goal contributions.

The Englishman’s best game in the Premier League came against his former club, Man City, where he bagged a goal and an assist.

But it is Rogers’ all-around play that makes him stand out.

Against City, in the same game, the forward completed five dribbles and won eight duels.

The 23-year-old can drive with the ball, as well as win back possession, which would make him a good fit for Spurs and Frank.

Villa insist that Rogers is not for sale, especially following the loss of Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle United earlier this summer.

However, with their well-known issues with Profit and Sustainability Rules, a high bid could be too good for Aston Villa to turn down.

Savinho, Manchester City

It is no secret that Tottenham’s dream target is Manchester City forward Savinho.

Although the Brazilian occupies the same left side as Eze, he offers a completely different profile.

The 21-year-old’s tenacity can get supporters out of their seats, especially with his visually stunning dribbles and forward passes.

Saviniho averaged two dribbles per game last season, while registering eight assists and creating 11 big chances.

Worryingly, the forward managed just one Premier League goal last year, coming in a 2-0 win over Leicester City.

With the World Cup set to kick off next summer, it is rumoured that Savinho wants regular first-team football to make the Brazil squad.

Pep Guardiola is not known for standing in the way of players who want to leave the Etihad Stadium, but Spurs can expect to have to cough up a club-record fee to sign the winger.

Maghnes Akliouche, AS Monaco

Certainly, a lesser-known name that Spurs should look at is Maghnes Akliouche.

The Frenchman only managed five goals in Ligue 1 last season due to a lack of finishing, with eight big chances missed.

Despite this, the 23-year-old is not afraid to pull the trigger, with nearly two shots a game, of which only a third of those hit the target.

Creatively, the forward excels, having tallied 10 assists and created 15 big chances last term.

Akliouche is not afraid to dribble with the ball either and is above average defensively for his position.

Although Akliouche is still quite raw, you can see why top clubs are sniffing around, with Monaco reportedly open to selling for the right price.
