Arsenal news: Reiss Nelson to join Brentford following Yoane Wissa transfer

Mikel Arteta’s summer exodus at Arsenal is set to continue as Reiss Nelson has agreed to join fellow Premier League side Brentford.

Full focus is on departures at the Emirates Stadium on Deadline Day, with out-of-favour duo Albert Sambi Lokonga and Fabio Vieira both set to join Bundesliga outfit Hamburger SV.

Now, it seems as though Nelson will be the next out of the door in North London.

Reiss Nelson Brentford-bound

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Bees have reached an agreement to sign the 25-year-old on a season-long loan.

Despite interest from other Premier League clubs and several European sides, the Englishman has decided on a move to the Gtech Community Stadium.

Nelson, who is set to undergo a medical imminently, is believed to have been the subject of interest from Crystal Palace and Fulham.

Of course, the forward spent last season on loan at Craven Cottage, where he made 13 appearances until a hamstring injury cut short his campaign.

Nelson will be a good, solid addition for Brentford, who are looking to reinforce their attack as Yoane Wissa moves ever closer to Newcastle United.

Too much competition at Arsenal?

While Nelson is undoubtedly talented, following the Gunners’ own summer transfer business, it is hard to see where he would fit in.

Arsenal have brought in Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace and Noni Madueke from Chelsea, who both operate in similar positions to Nelson.

Not to forget the wealth of talent Arsenal already have in those areas, including Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.

Although only leaving on loan, with two years left on his current deal at the Emirates Stadium, the winger will likely leave the club permanently before then.

Nelson will forever be immortalised at Arsenal, coming through the Hale End academy and, of course, scoring that immortalised last-minute winner against AFC Bournemouth in March 2023.
