Aston Villa analysis: Unai Emery completes Deadline Day swoops for Harvey Elliott, Jadon Sancho and Victor Lindelof

It is safe to say that Aston Villa had a fairly uneventful transfer window, but it certainly heated up on Deadline Day.

After a bad start to the Premier League season, Villa made three important signings that could improve their campaign.

Here, Transfer News Blitz writer Harrison Pearce reveals why these signings will become a success.

Victor Lindelof, Unattached

Victor Lindelof was the first signing through the door at Bodymoor Heath on Deadline Day.

The Swedish defender will add some much-needed squad depth to Aston Villa because, until yesterday, it looked like Unai Emery would have only three senior centre-backs going into the season.

With over 300 Premier League appearances for Manchester United, Lindelof comes into Aston Villa with experience to fill in for Pau Torres, Tyrone Mings, and Ezri Konsa.

There are many minutes to fight for this season across the domestic competitions and the Europa League, so the 31-year-old will see more than enough game time for the Villans.

Jadon Sancho, Manchester United

Jadon Sancho has joined on a season-long loan from Manchester United, and it feels quite similar to the Marcus Rashford deal last year.

Aston Villa have given the out-of-favour forward another chance to revive his career in the Premier League.

It is a massive risk from the Midlands club, who are paying 80% of his wages, so it must be successful from both perspectives.

The Englishman is an exciting player, but has not shown it enough on a consistent basis in the Premier League.

However, Sancho did have a half-decent loan spell for Chelsea last term, scoring five goals and getting 10 assists in all competitions.

But, it is safe to say that Chelsea fans were expecting more from a player of his skill set.

There have always been rumours about the 25-year-old having a bad attitude problem ever since his Borussia Dortmund days.

Hopefully, Emery can be the right manager to get the best out of him.

When you think about Emery dealing with Jhon Duran, who had his fair share of problems on and off the pitch, then the Spaniard should be more than capable of handling a situation if one occurs.

Harvey Elliott, Liverpool

Harvey Elliott also signed on a season-long loan, this time from Liverpool, with an obligation to buy for £35million next summer.

The Reds reportedly have a buy-back clause for the England U21 international, but if they do activate that, then that means Elliott will have become a success in the short term for Aston Villa.

If this is the only way the Midlands club could structure the deal to get it over the line, then at least the 22-year-old can be the perfect replacement for Leon Bailey, who has joined AS Roma for the season.

Elliott is a very versatile player who can play in attacking midfield, but will most likely be deployed as a right winger.

The midfielder could become a game-changer for Aston Villa’s forward options.

With a front four of Elliott, Morgan Rogers, Sancho, and Ollie Watkins could be terrifying for Premier League defences.

With all the commotion around whether Emiliano Martinez was going to leave on Deadline Day, it is also a bonus to Aston Villa that he has stayed due to his world-class talent.

Hopefully, we can see all these players start in the next Premier League game after the international break.
